PigeonBlog provides an alternative way to participate environmental air pollution data gathering. The project equips urban homing pigeons with GPS enabled electronic air pollution sensing devices capable of sending real-time location based air pollution and image data to an online mapping/blogging environment. Pigeonblog is a social experiment between human and non-human animals.

PigeonBlog was launched at ISEA 2006 in San Jose.
PigeonBlog was developed in conjunction with Preemptive Media's AIR project.

Beatriz da Costa is an interdisciplinary artist and researcher, who works at the intersection of contemporary art, engineering, politics, and the life sciences. Beatriz is a former collaborator of Critical Art Ensemble and a co-founder of Preemptive Media, an arts, activism and technology group. Beatriz is an Associate Professor of Arts, Computation, Engineering at the University of California, Irvine.
